Lakeland Senior Softball rolled in under a suspicious sky, hoping the forecast was bluffing. For four innings, it was — and we got some great ball in before the clouds decided they’d had enough.

Thompson stayed perfect at 3-for-3, Ernesto 2-for-3, Kim and Ron both 2-for-2.

We pushed into the fifth, rain coming down harder with every pitch, until the field turned slick and the game slipped away. A lot of disappointed faces heading off — nobody wanted this one cut short, especially the Sitting and Home teams.

New Game Days Starting in August

 IN CASE YOU MISSED THE EMAIL FROM BOARD MEMBER KERRY:

Due to continued low turnout on Thursdays, we are moving to Wednesdays in the hope of getting a full two (or three) teams. So beginning the first week in August, we will play Mondays and Wednesdays. Be sure to check in by 8:30 so we can organize competitive teams.

For our players that also play in Dover, feel free to encourage any Dover players to join us on Wednesdays (and Monday if they choose) in August and September.

Last thing, the Player Appreciation Gift this year is a collared shirt - Platinum with the league logo. They look really nice. They are IN, so if you paid your full dues for the 2026 season, you are entitled to a shirt. I will have the shirts at the fields beginning that first week in August.

🥎07.23.26 A Game Built on Grit, Not Headcount

Today’s Lakeland Game Day had all the ingredients of a classic Florida summer: heat, humidity, and a roster that looked like it had been through a blender.

As soon as the temperature climbed, the annual Thursday Migration kicked in — a few of our regulars were MIA. And with the snowbirds still up north enjoying their “cooler weather,” we were left staring at a field that looked more like a practice session than league play.

But Lakeland doesn’t fold. We got creative — three teams of five, rotating three outs or two at‑bats, then six outs in the field. It wasn’t regulation softball… it was Lakeland Summer Softball, which is basically the same thing but with more improvising and more laughing.

We didn’t keep official score, but let’s be honest — everyone who showed up knows exactly who won this little experiment.

To the guys who were MIA: we missed you out there. Summer’s doing what summer does — thinning the roster, scattering players, and leaving us to invent new formats on the fly.

So next week, grab your glove, grab your water, and come help us turn Lakeland back into a full‑strength crew. We’ll keep the field warm for you… but we’d rather have you warming it yourselves.
