If Monday was a
chess match, Thursday was a street fight — with bats as hot as the trash talk
flying across the infield. The Visiting Team came out swinging and never cooled
off, taking the win 19–15 in a game that felt like a verbal sparring
match wrapped in a hitting clinic.
The Home Team
kept it close, and while the chirping flew in every direction, the hitting did
too — 11 out of 12 players on the visiting squad crossed the plate at least
once.
On the home
side, Bob Vanderberg put on a clinic: strikes crossing the plate all
game from the mound, and at the plate he went 3-for-3 with 3 runs scored.
The man treated home plate like he owned it.
And yes, Matt
and I had a side bet on whose triple was hit harder. I’ll concede his had
more sizzle, but mine came with smart base running — stretched it to third and
brought in two runs. I’ll take brains over brute force any day. Just
kidding, Matt — your triple was legit. Mine just had a little help.
Final score: Visitors
19 — Home 15 Plenty of hits, plenty of heat, and enough chirping to keep
the dugout lively until the next game.
